Chinatown Green Grocers

1

Chinese vegetable delivery trucks were once a common sight in Vancouver. At a time of little refrigeration, Chinese green grocers delivered fresh, affordable produce directly to their customers’ homes. The stores also supplied Chinese restaurants and were key to supporting the many Chinese farmers that eked out a living on the edges of town. Chinese green grocers eventually expanded outside of Chinatown, which created backlash from some white storekeepers. Today, Chinatown’s green grocers continue to support local farmers and provide fresh, affordable produce.
